Today's author spotlight is on MK Harkins, author of Intentional, Unintentional, and soon to be released Breaking Braydon. I became aware of MK's books when Intentional was in the 2014 eFestival of Words contest along with my book Sugar's Song in the sweet romance category. I liked the back blurb on the book and read the amazing amount of 5 star reviews. It definitely sounded like a book I would like! So why did it take me until last night to read it? Well, two reasons, the first was the reading slump I was in. Nothing has held my interest very long, and that wasn't a reflection on the book, more on my life and how scattered everything has been. The second reason is the cover, don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful cover, but I have a hang up about seeing the main character on the cover. I'm weird that way. Last night I decided I needed a book that would get me reading again and so as not to judge a book by its cover I finally one clicked Intentional. My intent was to read it as the first read of 2015, but I made the mistake of opening it as soon as it downloaded and started reading it at 6 p.m. last night. BIG MISTAKE. So, did Intentional break my reading slump of 2014? I'll let you read my review and you can decide for yourself, but suffice it to say I'll be one clicking Unintentional, as soon as I have another four hours to do nothing but read.
I bought Intentional last night, intent to make it my first read of 2015. I've been in a reading slump lately and was looking for something to break it. I made the mistake of opening the book as soon as I bought it and Intentional ended up being my last read of 2014 and first read of 2015! I seriously couldn't put this book down. I've been looking for a sweet romance like this for a long time. Ms. Harkins immediately grabbed me with the character Sarah, and since I always love a good mystery, I was immediately drawn into figuring out just what Sarah had up her sleeve. The main character, Mattie, was less of a mystery, but so easy to love and root for. The story is written from multiple POVs, but the author does a great job of telling the reader who is speaking, so you're never confused. The story is written in concise stream of consciousness, which is usually a train wreck, but not with Intentional. In fact, it makes you that much more part of the story, you want to hear what they are thinking because there are a couple of times that you want to shake them and yell, "You're screwing this up!" The secondary cast of characters is also intriguing and I can't wait to read Unintentional, the second in the series! I don't want to do a full blow by blow of this story because so much of it is intertwined it would be hard not to give a lot away, but there are no plot holes or unnecessary scenes, and the book is well edited and formatted.
I'm always super happy when I find a new author that I like and who has great stories to tell in a sweet, clean, caring way. You won't find sex or vulgar language in Intentional and its a book I've recommended my 14 year old read. Well done, Ms. Harkins, for kicking my reading slump of 2014 to the curb, just in the nick of time!
I give Intentional... 5 BIG HOT STEAMING CUPS!

But their perfect love story disintegrates when Mattie discovers evidence of Jeremy's massive betrayal. Unable to face the memories that haunt her with every aching step, Mattie flees to Mercer Island, Washington to start over. Unfortunately, she can't run away from the boundless pain as she struggles to make sense of the life she thought she knew - until she meets Cade. Tattooed engineer by day, lead singer in a rock band at night, Cade has experienced his own brand of pain with the loss of his college sweetheart. He and Mattie instantly bond over their mutual heartbreak, and as their friendship deepens, it ignites a new flame within Mattie, soothing the constant heartache for her former fiancée. Just when Mattie thinks she may have found another stab at happiness, Jeremy reenters her life, and with him, all the crushing memories. It's soon clear, though, that the trauma from her past may not be quite what it first seemed. Will the truth bring closure and a new beginning - or will it mean the end of both relationships forever?
I don’t want to hear about how happy she is, how everything turned out just the way it should have. Well, it didn’t. She should have been with me. Cade, the gorgeous song man, has every reason to steer clear of commitment and train his soulful eyes, heart-melting dimples, and sexy voice on every beauty clamoring for his attention. So why is it that he finds himself truly, deeply and unintentionally, fixed on the one woman who is not so easily swept away? The sequel to Intentional, the debut romantic novel by MK Harkins, Unintentional is the heart-racing new work that follows the tangled thread of Cade in the aftermath of his heartbreak in losing the one woman he thought was his soul mate. After taking a hiatus from his job as an engineer, as well as his role in the band as lead singer, Cade reemerges in the Seattle music scene. Enter Laurel, the tenacious and determined music agent. Laurel is determined to sign him, no matter how clearly reluctant he is. Though they try to resist one another romantically, the magnetism is as immediate as it is powerful. Unintentional offers readers an intricate, riveting story about the fraught paces of love, while also offering strains of heartwarming humor. With rich detail, authentic characters, and plenty of blood-pumping romance, Unintentional is a moving and multilayered look at how love can slip through our fingers, only to be pulled back again at the most surprising, stirring moments.
