Gargoyles, the ugly, mutant creatures atop prestigious old buildings. Just statues and tales. At least that’s what Larissa thought. She didn’t believe the rumors of gargoyles living in the forbidden forest that sat behind the university, or the rumors that the mysterious Gargoyle’s Kiss would set them free, at least not until she unintentionally kissed one. But kissing a statue of an unusually attractive man shouldn’t be life changing. After all, what’s the harm in a little kiss?

I stopped and caught her stare in mine and held it. “Listen, that thing…it, it kissed me back.”

She rolled her eyes. “Lari, it’s a statue. It didn’t move.”

Rubbing my temples, I paced faster. “I know that, I really do, but I also know that some man had his lips to mine and was ready to give me the make-out session of a lifetime. It was so real, I wasn’t even aware that you guys were still there.” My pacing stopped abruptly. “How long was I kissing that thing? What did you see?”

Folding her arms, Fin’s eyes glazed over, recalling the event. “Well, I pushed you and you kissed it, and then you like didn’t move for like forever. At first I thought I’d pushed you too hard and you’d hurt yourself, but you didn’t move or make a sound. Okay it wasn’t forever, but it was a good solid ten to fifteen seconds.”

“Gosh, it didn’t feel that long. I swear we were just starting to kiss when you broke the spell.”

She winked at me. “Must have been some kiss.”

“We’ll never know, will we? Cause I am never going back there again, ever. You hear me?” I pointed a finger at her and she raised her hands in surrender.

“I hear you, and we’ve been there once. That’s good enough for me. Now we know it exists. That’s all I wanted.”
