Title: Safety Breach
Author: Delores Fossen
Genre: Romance
Harlequin Imprint: Intrigue
Hosted by: Lady Amber’s PR
Blurb: Can a Texas lawman capture an escaped serial killer after a witness’s location is breached?
The serial killer Gemma Hanson narrowly escaped just discovered her WITSEC location, and he’s coming after her to finish what he started. That’s the message Sheriff Kellan Slater personally delivers. Although Gemma and Kellan share an intense past, escaping the violence surrounding them is all that matters. Especially once Gemma realizes there is no safe place—not even protective custody…

Safety Breach was a page-turner in the beginning. You were thrown into the action with Gemma finding her safe house compromised (A forward or prologue would have been great to explain why. The author fills it in but it still caused confusion in the beginning). Her knight in shining arrives just in time to save her, again. Kellan doesn't want to still have feelings for Gemma, his teenage love, but he does and it complicates matters when they're trying to find a serial killer.

I had a few problems with this one which is why I docked a star from it. First, if you read a lot of police procedurals, prepare to suspend reality because a lot of what the sheriff does, doesn't make any sense, especially if you know a cop. He moved Gemma around at times when he KNEW that the killer would probably be waiting but he'd do it anyway. He'd say, "It's not safe here, we have to move" and then they'd get caught in a trap and he'd take her back to where he had just said it wasn't safe. You will have to suspend reality here, trust me.

I can say the action never stops, even if some of it is created by their own hand. Once the web of lies starts to unravel you start to see why there was a web in the first place. The book culminates at the end with an unexpected resolution of the mystery with a twist.

I wanted to feel bad for Gemma but I couldn't. She was the type who did, not the type to cower, which was good. However, her job was as a profiler and she worked with the guy for years and never figured out he was a serial killer??? Again, suspend reality. I liked Kellen but I didn't understand why he had to 'huff' or 'mumble some profanity' every time he had to show emotion.

In the end, Gemma and Kellan do agree to try again, even if their HEA happens in the last paragraph of the book. I have to assume since this is the first in the series, and there are more to come with his brother's, that we will see more of Gemma and Kellan in the future.

Will a single dad and three little girls fulfill her secret Christmas wish?
Rehab nurse Bess Monroe is mortified that she accidentally sent the wrong Christmas letter to her boss! And so now Jack McCabe, widowed surgeon and father of three little girls, offers his friendship to get through the holidays. But their pact soon turns into something more. Can a woman who’s been burned by love open her heart to Jack for the holidays—and maybe forever?

I loved Jack and Bess's story! It wasn't just their story, though. It was the story of two families intertwined. It was the story of three motherless daughters who could see how perfect their friend Bess was for their daddy. When the book opens, Bess is down in the holiday dumps. She had written two drafts of her annual Christmas letter to her nursing school friends and accidentally sent them both! Awkward. Even more awkward is the guy she's crushing on in the letter is the one to show up in her office to ask her if she's okay. She's not. Neither is he.

Jack was the hospital's orthopedic surgeon, a widower and single father to three little girls. He wasn't looking for entanglements. He was comfortable being friends with Bess and had no idea she wanted more than platonic pizza nights with him and his girls. On the rare occasion he let himself think about what life might be like if he fell in love again, he knew it could only be with one woman. Bess.

Agreeing to a holiday fling, they comfort themselves by saying they could be friends with benefits for the holidays and go back to being friends without benefits after the New Year. Well, you ALL know how that worked out. It didn't. Pretty soon they were up to their ears in feelings and had no idea what to do with them. Misunderstandings ensue and as Christmas approaches, Bess fears her heart will be broken when he walks away. Jack has a plan, though, and for a seconds you have hope that he has it figured out. Until he comes out with an idea that truly only be thought up by a man!

A Tale of Two Christmas Letters was so sweet at the end that I got a toothache but in a good way! One of the reasons I loved this story was because the adults were mature, willing to talk out their issues, and didn't stomp around mad for days over every silly little thing. Love takes real work and Ms. Thacker portrayed that in a way that was mature and logical. "There are no limits on love," she said, and I think, she's got that perfectly right.
To date, I’ve written and published over one hundred novels. Many are out of print, many are coming back in print via e-readers. (Hurrah!) In each story, I try to provide a few laughs, maybe a few tears, a few problems that seem… at first… unsolvable. As well as a lot of love.

I thank all the readers who have supported me and my work over the years, and I welcome all the new ones with open arms, and much gratitude. Knowing I’ve made someone’s day a little brighter, with one of my books, is the best gift I could ever receive.

So look around the site. You’ll discover what’s new, and what you may have missed. As well as a few recipes.

Welcome! And happy reading!

Cathy Gillen Thacker
