Today I'm reviewing Rancher to the Rescue by Barb Han! I got this as a free download from Amazon, and I always try to review free books that I read as a thank you to the author. Read on for my review! A momentary act of bravery puts girl-next-door Prudence Owens in the line of fire. Suddenly responsible for an infant, she finds herself in the crosshairs of a kidnapper intent on taking the baby back--and leaving no witnesses. Texas Rancher Adam Firebrand has no idea how or why his name came up in association with a kidnapping, but he'll stop at nothing to keep a baby girl and her guardian angel safe. My Review:
Let me start by saying you will have to suspend some reality from the get go with this cowboy book. Some of the circumstances are hard to puzzle out but I will admit that Prudence, Angel, and Adam pulled me into the story immediately. Where this book lacked in details about the situation, it made up for in heart. Adam is a rugged rancher on his Texas homestead and when the book opens, he's mourning the loss of his grandfather. When he discovers Prudence, a woman his brother went to school with, holding a tiny baby and confused as to why, he knows he has to help her. Prudence is a woman with an unfortunate family history that has left her scarred. She prefers to be by herself with just her animals to avoid getting hurt again, until she finds herself holding a baby in the middle of a ranch and unsure how she got there. The book is the first in the Firebrand Series and it was a solid start for a series that is obviously going to be long, since Adam mentions many times that there are 18 boys. There is also an aspect in the story where all of them have to get married in order to inherit the property from their grandfather, rather than go to their fathers. As I said, you'll have to suspend some reality. All told, I enjoyed the story of Adam and Prudence. I will say there were some confusing parts, like the medication interaction that made very little sense to anyone with a medical background, as well some threads left dangling like where her purse and car ended up and why they were trying to get the baby and kill her mother. All in all, if you like a Texas rancher romance with lots of heart that's a fast read and lets you escape for a few hours, grab a copy of Rancher to the Rescue! I give it four Lonestar State stars. |
