Today I'm reviewing Even Though It's Breaking by Shannon Jump. This is Shannon's second novel and first suspense novel! I really enjoyed her first book, My Only Sunshine, so I downloaded this immediately and am glad I did! Read on for my review! (The book is part of Kindle Unlimited and only available on Amazon) BLURB: Allie Mason has it all: a handsome and doting boyfriend, a great career as an editor for an independent publisher, and a reliable best friend who keeps her on her toes. Coupled with her girl-next-door looks, Allie is a textbook definition of happy everything. Until one night, she’s stripped of it all. Allie is attacked in her home, badly beaten and raped—with no memory of the traumatizing events that took place that night. As Allie works to uncover the truth, she’s left with more questions than answers—and forced to make an unimaginable decision. With her attacker still at large, Allie is gripped by fear—and the growing sensation that someone has been following her. That they may be out there…watching.it. REVIEW:
I was excited to hear that Shannon Jump had written a second book! I downloaded it and jumped in. I was not surprised when it grabbed from the very first page. Allie is recovering from a brutal assault and she can't remember who did it. All she knows is, her attacker had anger issues and she's lucky to be alive. Her on-again, off-again boyfriend, Tarek, is there for her and she's grateful until she remembers they'd broken up before the attack. Unsure about everything, she lets him stay because having him there with her is better than being alone in the apartment where she was attacked. Even Though it's Breaking has multiple POVs told in present, and past history, which gives the reader an insight into Allie, and Owen who is a man obsessed with her. Allie has a lot going on and while it's not hard to figure out the who, it's the why that keeps you turning pages. I thought this was a very well-done domestic thriller for a debut author. You will have to suspend some reality when it comes to Allie's character. She makes some decisions that are just flat-out confusing because no one in the situation would actually do it. We all make bad decisions in life, but Allie is the queen of bad decisions. Even Though it's Breaking was a well-written of love, loss, and the dangers of trusting people you think you know, when they’re actually someone completely different on the inside. This was a fast read that will keep you turning pages to find out how Allie manages to worm her way out of situations she puts herself in and just who it is that helps her when the chips are down. |
